Waiting for the autumn Flowers (October 22, 2007)

It's autumn, it's England and expectation is in the air - Halloween, Bonfire Night, Christmas on the horizon - but personally I'm waiting for the 14th November. Why? That's when The Nocturnal Flowers launch their long-awaited EP.

Since I first heard their beautiful music - a stunning blend of tranquil, emotive, powerful and sometimes cutting lyrics, backed by stylish arrangements and lingeringly delicious vocals - I've told anyone that listens that these guys will go a long way. And every time Darren, Jennie and Paul record a new song I know I'm right. They've just sent me 'When I Believed in You' (Jennie's voice enchants again) and 'Edge of Time' – both faultless beautifully composed gems. Nocturnal Flowers have yet to disappoint. I don't think they will.

I've said before that they deserve to go way beyond the bounds of their native Hull and that's the truth. If you haven't heard The Nocturnal Flowers you have no idea what you're missing.
