Music to weep by - and you'll love every second (March 22, 2008) If you have a chance to hear Red Shoes – take it. You may find you’re quietly weeping during their set but it will be a delicious sadness that you’ll enjoy. Red Shoes is acoustic duo Carolyn Evans (vocals, guitar) and Mark Evans (vocals, guitar). The English acoustic world has a great many duos, so does it need one more? If they write songs like Carolyn and Mark, yes it does. No doubt. Their songs touch emotions that everyone will recognise.
'My Father’s Green Beret' has power and depth by the case full, there’s enough here to make you rage and cry out loud at the injustice of it all. Piano and voice have rarely worked so well together, with lyrics to pierce your heart. 'Hostile Place' is a piece of angst-filled folk that tells the anguished story of deceased love. Carolyn’s voice places the pain just where you know it lives. There are few human beings that won’t be moved by this song. And many will relate to the theme only too well. 'Only a Fool' is another pure song with Mark’s guitar and Carolyn’s voice touching a nerve with each syllable.
Those three and others are scheduled for their forthcoming album. When it hits the streets go and buy it. Be prepared to cry. You’ll love it.
