‘Headwaters’ – Misner & Smith - pitch-perfect harmonies, clear-as-crystal voices(October 02, 2017)
The first point that strikes you about Misner & Smith is the perfect vocal blend that carries through their music. Whether you’re entranced by the pitch-perfect harmonies, caught by the clear-as-crystal voices or led away by the lyrical distinction, their music has a distinct purity. Sometimes their sound harks back to another time yet it remains totally relevant today. Their latest album ‘Headwaters’ reflects all those qualities
This album offers a collection of songs from songwriters and bands that Misner & Smith state have: ‘... influenced and inspired their musical journey’. That includes Simon & Garfunkel, Neil Young, The Lovin’ Spoonful, The Talking Heads and The Band. Now if you’re going to do that you had better be damn sure of your skills and your pedigree. You should also be able to add your own interpretation rather than simply emulating some classic works.
Nothing to worry about here, Misner & Smith have interpreted these masterworks to perfection. Listen to any track on ‘Headwaters’ - from Simon and Garfunkel’s America’ and Young’s ‘Expecting to Fly’ to The Lovin’ Spoonful’s ‘Coconut Grove’ and The Talking Heads ‘City of Dreams’ and my personal favourite, Dr. Dog’s ‘Turning the Century’ - and I for one am damn sure the composers are more than pleased with the results.
