One With The Tide’ – Alice DiMicele - comes immediately into focus

(December 11, 2017)

From the first moment, ‘One With The Tide’, the new album form Alice DiMicele is a clear-cut, precise treat, especially if rootsy-edged folk-Americana with an added edge works for you – and the added edge? That utterly distinctive voice that comes equipped with a deep seated, Alice DiMicele One With The Tidewide-ranging jazz-tinged, bluesy feel.

Everything comes immediately into focus with the opener ‘Love With The Tide’ and ‘Desire’ both powerful statement-makers that leave you in no doubt that your hearing an artist with a message to deliver. The immediacy of these songs connects to take you to places where thinking seriously is a requirement, that’s not to say listening is hard work, far from it. It’s just that lyrics and vocal delivery combine to lay down some serious observations – ‘The Other Side’ and ‘Lonely Alone’ make that clear from the first.

Other reflections include the eternal truth that ‘Nature Reigns’, while the pulsating presence of ‘Voice Of The Water’ inspired by those that fight to maintain or recover the waters that once flowed unpolluted and clean. And to close, there’s DiMicele’s version of John Lennon’s classic ‘Imagine’ – beautifully arranged and perfectly performed.
